Destination Barbados

The beautiful coral capped island of Barbados is situated the furthest east of all Caribbean islands. Offering over 3000 hours of sunshine per year, with 70 miles of white powdery sun drenched beaches, this leading destination within the Caribbean allows you to fulfill any tropical fantasy.

Having gained independence from Britain in 1966, it is a prosperous, relaxed and overwhelmingly friendly island. It has absorbed the tourist industry without changing its life and character.

Resort Areas

The main tourist areas are on Barbados West and South Coasts. The West Coast is one of the premier destinations in the entire Caribbean, offering low key sophistication, with luxury hotels, fantastic beaches and fine dining, attracting famous names and faces from across the globe. The South Coast is known for its wide beaches, simpler accommodation and most notoriously the lively nightlife. At St Lawrence Gap you will find open air bars, a great selection of barbados restaurants, live music and partying for all ages to the early hours.

Discover the Beaches

Whenever you look towards the clear turquoise sea, you will see the perfect white sand of a true Caribbean beach. The West and South Coasts offers the best beaches. Many of the Barbados hotels and resorts offer their own white sandy coves. Beautiful safe all access beaches are also in abundance. Check out Payne's Bay on the West; and a must see is Sandy Beach and Rockley Beach on the South Coast. You can swim, jet ski, sail, kayak or simply just sunbathe. Take a local bus or van; just ask the driver, and he'll drop you right on the sand.

Bridgetown

The Barbados capital, Bridgetown, is the heart of this prosperous, relaxed island. It is situated in the South West of the island on beautiful Carlisle Bay around a sea inlet which forms the natural harbor. Catamarans, yachts and fishing boats line the harbor. Water front cafes and bars give you the perfect view point to watch the day's activities. Stroll through the streets and see the different architecture, where government offices and financial institutions stand above lively local market stalls. Walk through Trafalgar Square for a photo opportunity with the statue of Admiral Nelson or relax in Independance Square. Both areas lead to the main commercial area of Broad Street, where all the major Duty Free Shopping stores are situated.

The South Coast Boardwalk

Barbados has a fantastic new boardwalk which runs from Rockley Beach for approximately 1 kilometer towards Bridgetown. The boardwalk starts just below Accra Beach Hotel, running parallel to Hastings Main Road. Not only does the boardwalk run side by side to the beautiful turquoise sea and white sand, but it has also been complimented with strategically planned view points and landscaped gardens, to let you enjoy the views of the South Coast and the incredible sunsets. The multi million dollar project has brought new life to the area, linking hotels and apartments, local restaurants and bars. The boardwalk opened in December 2008 and is being used by tourists and locals, either walking to the beach or local businesses, or simply utilizing the new facility to exercise, meet up with friends and enjoy the views. Make sure you take the time to visit, it's definitely a great new Barbados Hot Spot!

The East Coast

Drive and watch the spectacular Barbados coastline change drastically from the tropical paradise of the West Coast situated on the Caribbean sea to the dramatic rugged look of Bathsheba, surfers paradise on the East Atlantic Coast. It is not recommended to swim there as the sea is rough. The area is renowned for the Surf; so make sure you have your camera as the views are spectacular.

Nightlife

Barbados nightlife offers quiet sophistication, cultured shows and moonlit cruises to open air nightclubs playing live Calypso, R&B and Reggae music in to the early hours. Barbados has something for everyone. Sampling the Bajan Rum is a must, and if you just want to "lime" with the locals you'll find a Rum Shop on every corner.
